Horrible! Product of Australia and Mexico- not USA.
I just ate one – disgusting!!
Read the labels before trusting the Trader Joe name! $9.99 /lb for horse meat. This is not steak! Tastes sour.

  2. Sarah

So gross! We thought it was pork because of the color and quality! I will never buy met from Trader Joe’s again. Waste of money!

  3. Josh

I agree that this is definitely not beef. The meat cooked like pork, but tasted like neither pork nor beef. Traders Joes may want to review their meat suppliers more closely. Yikes!

I’ve never left a review before but I’m sitting here with half of the New York steak and wondering what kind of meat this is? It definitely does not cut or taste like a New York steak that I know and I’ve been around a long time. Trader Joe’s – please address the quality of your meat. It looked beautiful in the package but did not taste good!

The vacuum packed New York strip steak, processed in Australia and Mexico was very poor in quality. The color was odd inside like that of pork. It was very tough and hard to cut and mostly hard gristle. There was no taste. I don’t believe it was a “steak”. I dumped the rest in the trash. I’m very disappointed. I haven’t had red meat in over a year. I’m a Trader Joe’s fan and raised my children on this food. I continue to shop at this store but will never buy any kind of meat there again unless there’s a significant change.

No shot this is from a cow. Cooked the same cut of steak a million times from other places, thought I’d get it at TJ’s and save a trip. Everything about the process was the same but the steak came out looking like pork. No marbling, super strange color, didn’t taste like pork or beef tho! Tasted like it was 3D printed lmao. Definitely grossed me out, still ate it but would not recommend at all.

Nothing to say that already hasn’t been said here. Good lord these are trash!

  8. Jennie

No stars. What has been said above. All true.
    Never. That’s it.

  9. Dee

But everyone else it came out like pork! Super weird! Didn’t taste like beef either. Dumped it all in the trash.

  10. Dee

My last review had a typo! Everyone else said it came out like pork and I agree! Super weird. Definitely not beef nor pork!

  11. Kyle

Really hoping this isn’t horse meat or some weird crap.. looked like pork after i seared it and did not taste right

Just tried to cook this ‘steak’ – gross! It has this odd pink color on the outside, but cooks grey on the inside. This is not beef! After looking at the label and realizing this is either from Mexico or Australia, I highly suspect that this is horse meat (as horse slaughter is legal in those countries). So beyond disturbing and I’m going to contact th FDA and USDA (and will be freezing the evidence)! As a horse rescuer, I cannot even say how disgusted and appalled I am. Everyone needs to do the same with this meat and Trader Joe’s needs to be exposed.

My entire family was like what is this? We eat a lot of steak and tried these Trader Joe’s strips and everyone hated them. What a huge waste of money since they ended up in the trash after a few bites. Is it the nationality or as some have suggested not even beef?

  14. Kenzie

Both my boyfriend and I woke up extremely sick the morning after eating these NY strip steaks. We consume A LOT of red meat, and these looked different than any normal steak. Weird light pink color and turned grey after grilling. Disgusting.

  15. Max

What on earth was this!? I’m just repeating what everyone else said, but there is no way this is beef. After my typical new york strip cooking method, it came out looking like a lightly seared tuna, super pink middle and white/greyish outside.

  16. Cindy

If I could give a -1 I would. It smelled bad straight out of the package. Was hoping that once it was cooked it would get better but it did not. I paid $22 per steak and after a few bites I threw it away. It smelled and tasted like smelly socks.

Following the same theme here. It did not sear/brown the way that a steak would. I asked my wife if this was cured pork in the manner that one makes corn beef. Odd reddish color in the outside and grayish-red in the middle.
