It’s so rare that I give a bad review to a TJ’s product, but even when pre-rinsed, these filters impart a noticeable and unpleasant cardboard flavor to the coffee, with a very persistent after-taste. In general, this is a problem with unbleached filters, but this is just particularly bad.

Used these filters for over 20 years without problems – UNTIL NOW – their
quality nose-dived – because the filter seam pops open every single time,
and we have Coffee set in our carafe and coffee every single time! Obviously,
Paper Quality declined – will not be able to buy any more!!

Two or three months ago, I noticed a significant change in the quality of the paper being used to make the Brown #4 Coffee Filter. The weight of the paper and density of the paper was noticeably lighter, resulting in the filter no longer capable of holding the grounds and water successfully as it previously had done. Time and again, a single filter breaks thru, and I’ve
ended up with grinds in the bottom of my carafe, and a spoiled pour-over. So now, I’m required to use 2 filters~ meaning I’m ultimately buying twice as many boxes of the filters -at the same price- as in previous years. More profit for the company, less value for me.
This but one issue, of how a once great company after being bought by a major corporation, the product quality is sacrificed. The present corporate managers, looking for ways to boost profits have found a cheaper paper supplier, and foisted inferior goods upon us the loyal consumers of Trader Joe products.
I hope others will speak up and COMPLAIN, so the corporation recognizes that people are not stupid, and we will not spend our money on once favored items, ~ now of noticeably lesser quality ~ because corporate management has found a way to make them with inferior products.

Even tough I have 2 boxes of TJ brown paper filters in my pantry, I just ordered a box of Melitta brown filters from Amazon to see if they will remain intact and not leak coffee grounds. Too bad the accountants can’t fix their supply chain problem. TJs should have a recall on their coffee filters since it is chronic.
