If you like candied ginger (which I do), you’ll love these! They’re quite strong so I can only handle a few at a time, but I’d say that’s a plus in a dessert.

These were much better than I expected. Some ginger products can be too strong and bitter, and while these did have an intense aftertaste, they were not too bitter or gross. The sugar definitely adds up, though (10g per chew).

I’ve loved these and make a special trip to keep stocked. But the bag I bought the utter day is awful – WHAT HAPPENED??? This new bag has a much, much milder taste – and a gummy bear texture. I’m hoping this is just a bad batch!!!

what’s wrong with this different Ginger chews??
so i usually buy 5 to 8 bags of ginger chews and my latest purchase wasn’t the same as usual.
apparently. they have changed the way they make these chews.
they taste like flour textured gummy ish.. that doesnt even taste like ginger.
i thought it was just that bag only, but to my surprise, all of them were like that.
it feels like i could taste less than 10% of ginger content than the previous ginger chews.
very disappointed . will not buy again.

This batch was rock hard, and difficult to get the wrapper off without a lot of paper sticking to it.
I just eat them anyway. A few fragments of paper fiber shouldn’t kill me.

I bought a bag of these from TJs and another from Natural Grocers. The pieces are individually wrapped, but the TJ’s version had addition paper wrapping to pull off. What a pain!! The Natural Grocers pieces was just open the wrap then pop the chew in your mouth (in less than 30 seconds). The TJ pieces took about 2 minutes (open the wrap = 1 sec., pull off the paper = 90 sec.). TJ’s version makes for less than desirable experience.

Great ginger candy! I always pick this up when I’m at TJ’s. Not a TJ brand but it’s great that they carry it. I pick these up every chance I get. Good to have on hand for a cold, to toss in a cup of tea, and good to share.

Love these chews so much but the recent change in packaging has made it impossible to remove all of the wrapper from the candy. The inner waxed paper is absolutely glued to the candy, rendering it basically inedible. I really hope this packaging flop gets figured out quickly.

Would taste great if the packaging wasn’t the worst thing I’ve ever encountered. Literally inedible unless you want to eat paper with your candy. So bad I thought the paper was maybe rice paper and supposed to be edible for a moment. T’was not and now this unopened bag of candy is the bane of my existence.

The candy is delicious, the wrapping is a dismal failure. It needs to be wrapped in something that it won’t become one with, like wax paper. It is impossible to eat this candy without a major sticky paper removal project. Just dumb on the part of Trader Joe’s to not catch this problem. I hope they figure it out.

Came to report the same about wrapping as other reviewers. Used to be easy to unwrap. Now you have to eat some paper or get the candy under your nails trying to scratch off the paper. I like the candy otherwise.

I love these candies…at least I used to, until recently when the paper wrap became more like an ingredient. It’s impossible to unwrap these candies now, almost as if they melt into the paper as they’re being packaged. When I first had this problem last month I wrote to the company because I thought it was a fluke.
Usually I buy two bags every TJ trip, but I’m going to eat the candy and paper I have and be done with them. I have tons of food allergies and it makes me sad to lose this option.

I’ve been unable to find these chews on my last several trips to Trader Joe’s and was told they’d be getting more in the first week of February. I’m hoping they will have fixed the problem with the wrappers!

Hold them in your hand or put in your pocket – the increased temperature from the body helps the white paper come off easy peasy. Please bring these back soon!

I bought these ginger chews because I had heard such good reviews about them. Holy smokes, they are so spicy I can barely even eat one. I know Ginger is spicy, but I guess I thought that these might not be too bad. The smell is delicious though. The paper was a little hard to get off of them. I think what I am going to do with the rest of the bag is drop one in a cup of my hot tea when I have that. Maybe between the hot tea and a little creamer it should be a lot more mild tasting. That being said, if you love the taste of ginger, and you love spicy stuff you will enjoy these.

I agree the wrapping has become a disaster these last 6 months or so. I depend on these ginger chews to clear my throat (before choir), and every day to soothe.
