It took a lot of restraint to stop eating this. I could easily have finished the whole pint. My mouth was still fuzzy feeling an hour later.

I love ice cream. I love sorbet. I love fruit. I couldn’t manage this calamansi and mango sorbet and I tried several times, putting half vanilla ice cream and half of this sorbet on my spoon at the same time, I put chocolate syrup on it. Calamansi just isn’t for me. I didn’t taste citrusy or sweet. Given the variety of tropical fruits, tropical, yeah sure. Refreshing, it would have been except for the taste. I tasted tartness, bitterness, and something else I just can’t describe, maybe like the pith of a lemon or lime, but more waxy or something like that. So, for the first time in decades I threw nearly a pint of ice cream/sorbet in the kitchen sink and flushed it down the drain. Yet, I see gushing, positive reviews for it everywhere! Is this like cilantro, you either love it or hate it?

It is so incredibly bitter that every bite feels like they had included all the pith of every fruit they had put in. Aside from the very strong bitterness, you could taste the sweet tartness of the calamansi and the smoothness of the mango, and you wish that that was all you could taste, but that core pithy bitterness is always there and there’s just no way to eat around this. I had 1/4th of a cup and I had enough. This will be the first time I’ve returned an item back to TJ because of the disappointment.
