Trader Joe’s Coffee a Cocoa Reviews
Medium dark roast. A blend of Brazilian ground 100% Arabica coffee, unsweetened cocoa powder, and natural chocolate flavor with other natural flavors.
At one point this was sold in a canister and discontinued, but Trader Joe’s brought it back in a bag.

i love this stuff! it’s the coffee i use at home and i always keep at least 2 canisters in my panty. until last night….i went to TJs to stock up and i cannot find this! i dont know if it has been discontinued or just sold out. My TJ helper did not know. I’m only slightly panicking

Yep. I’ve got a stash but it won’t last forever. I’ve been unsuccessful at blending my own replacement.

This was a good coffee – I finished the can- but I could not taste the cocoa in it.

Kinda gross

Don’t use this in your coffee machines! The coffee and cocoa are too fine. It will actually clog your Keurig filters and prevent water from coming out. It is also too fine for a French press and prevent you from depressing the plunger without damaging your press. It will also clog your standard coffee machine filter and over flow the water. After all 3 methods failed, I threw it away. Which is a shame since it smelled amazing.

The cocoa/coffee grind is too fine, it clogs up the filters, coffee doesn’t drip through fast enough.

All the complaints aside, I used pour-over method with paper filter in Hario glass funnel. Followed package instructions for coffee/water ratio. Perfect with some added sweetener and warm milk. No complaints here.

This actually tastes really great, but brewing can be a pain if you’re looking for a big pot of coffee. Definitely ran into the overflow problem, but then we switched to brewing about 16ozs at a time and had no problems. Yes, it takes a little longer for the water to filter through, but that little added chocolate taste is great.

The strange grind of this coffee caused a terrible overflow problem in my coffee maker. It made a huge mess and took a lot of effort to clean the grounds. If I had turned on the coffee maker and walked away, it could have damaged my kitchen cabinets and counter. I reported the problem to the manager at the local Trader Joe’s. At my request he notified the corporate office about the potential safety issues. The person at corporate did not agree it was important enough to recall the product since it is seasonal. I am a huge Trader Joe’s fan, but very disappointed in their response. I told them that 3 other people this week have reported a similar problem on this website in the past 10 days.

We taste no cocoa or added richness. It has a weird flavored coffee taste. I am surprised at the high reviews & would not purchase again.
Lynn Harland –
No cocoa flavoring whatsoever and the coffee is very, very weak. Hopefully when I blend it with a strong coffee it will be better but I will not buy again and do not recommend.
Jared Landrum –
I like it, but both the coffee and cocoa flavors could be stronger. I have a metal-mesh coffee filter so that may be why I didn’t have a clogging problem.

Used an Aeropress to brew and overall I liked the taste. A little bitter but with a nice morning dark roast it was welcomed. Now the massive negative. The cocoa just clumps together and collects into a pasty mess that clogs any filter that is fine enough to filter it making it a living hell to brew.

The smell is amazing but that’s about it. It is ground too coarse for an espresso maker. It has a weak flavor and brews very very light no matter what method you use. Not worth the price.

Filled a reusable Keurig pod and brewed it strong. The result was a perfect medium roast with a cocoa overtone to which I added a small amount of milk. No clogging or brewing difficulties.
Jen –
Same as everyone else. It smelled great but the cocoa clumps and makes brewing a pain in the but

I’m blown away to see bad reviews. I was skeptical because I only drink black coffee. The cocoa really adds to this blend. I live 1 1/2 hours from a Trader Joe’s, so I don’t get there often. I hope they’ll add this to their regular lineup.

I only bought one package of this coffee and cocoa mix and added about 1/2 cup to 1/2 ground decaf coffee . I always mix this with my Peets ground de caffine coffee. I brew this in a Mr. Coffee maker with gold filter and paper. I love a semi mocha so had a few shakes of Trader Joes Sipping Chocolate to my cup of brewed coffee with about 1 to 2 Tbsp. of half and half. This tastes delicious to me, but checking with Trader Joe last I found this coffee is discontinued until next holiday season. Amazon on line wanted about $32. for the 14 oz. package that is in short supply. I won’t pay that much for less than a lb. of coffee, hoping to find other coffee cocoa mixes online, but so far no luck.

Takes like chocolate milk mixed with coffee. Don’t usually love flavored coffee
But I purchased in a PMS induced haze. Glad I did. Delicious

Love this coffee so much. Sad it’s not available all the time. Not sure why people have issues brewing it. I have gone thru 4 bags no issues. Love for it to be available full time. Thanks

I love this coffee. I bought the last two bags at Trader Joe’s and called a bunch of surrounding stores to get more before I realized it’s seasonal. I use a keurig with the ez pods and thick white filters and have never had an overflow issue. I dont like dark, dirty tasting coffee and this is so smooth. I wish it was available year round. Will plan better next season.
Karen Hughes –
I tried this on a whim and absolutely loved it. I would buy it year round if I could! I’ll watch for it, though, and if I find it again I’ll buy several.

PLEASE BRING THIS BACK!!!!!
I do not like coffee, but I really enjoy Trader Joe’s Coffee a Cocoa.
I brew it in my Moka Pot and it tastes perfect. Went looking for more in my local TJ’s only to be told it was discontinued…again. Trader Joe’s please bring this back, even if it is only seasonal.
